Artificial intelligence is no longer a premium luxury in India. During hearings and briefings this year, one message stood out clearly: big tech wants mass adoption. In 2026, millions of Indians gained free access to premium AI tools from Google, OpenAI, and Perplexity, thanks to telecom partnerships.

Google, Jio and the Gemini Pro Push

In October 2026, Reliance Jio and Google announced a major partnership. Jio Unlimited 5G users now get Google AI Pro, including Gemini 2.5 Pro, free for 18 months.
A Google spokesperson said the aim was to “bring powerful AI tools into everyday Indian life.” The package, valued at about ₹35,100, includes 2TB cloud storage, advanced image and video generation, and access to NotebookLM for study and research.

What Google AI Pro Includes

Google AI Pro offers higher usage limits, 1,000 monthly AI credits, and access to tools like Whisk and Flow. Jio users can activate the offer directly through the MyJio app. Initially limited by age, the benefit was later extended to all Jio users nationwide.

Airtel-Perplexity Partnership Explained

In July 2026, Bharti Airtel partnered with Perplexity to offer Perplexity Pro free for 12 months. The subscription, worth ₹17,000, is available to Airtel mobile, Wi-Fi, and DTH users.
Airtel’s leadership described it as a “game-changing” move to help users search and research with confidence.

What Makes Perplexity Pro Useful

Perplexity Pro allows up to 300 advanced searches daily, supports multiple AI models, enables file uploads, and generates images from text. It is especially helpful for students handling long documents and professionals working with reports and data.

OpenAI Brings ChatGPT Go to India

From November 4, 2026, OpenAI began offering ChatGPT Go free for 12 months in India. Normally priced at ₹399 per month, the plan gives extended access to advanced models, image creation, file analysis, and custom GPTs.
An OpenAI note clarified that users must be located in India and add a payment method, though no charges apply during the free period.

With telecom-backed offers from Jio and Airtel, premium AI tools have quietly become part of daily digital life in India, opening new possibilities for learning, work, and creativity.
